Top 3 Complaints about Realtors
Have you heard the one about the Grand Rapids real estate agent?
After a dozen years in this profession, I’ve probably heard them all
(and enjoyed many of them!). I’ve also had a chance to hear many stories
from both buyers and sellers about their experiences, positive and
negative. It turns out that customers’ expectations for a Grand Rapids
real estate agent, although generally reasonable, are not always met.
And that can be disappointing or worse.
These are some of the top complaints buyers and sellers seem to have about real estate agents:
- “My agent is never available.”
Surprisingly, sometimes an agent
doesn’t return calls, or the customer may have the perception that they always
deal with an assistant, and never with their actual agent. Ideally, you should
deal with the agent you hired, and get a response the same day whenever you
call. - “I don’t feel like I’m in the loop.”
Sometimes customers are not
kept up to date on the status of their home sale or pending purchase. This can
be a symptom of inexperience, if the agent treats real estate as a part time
job, or is just getting their feet wet. Often the customer may choose an inexperienced
agent to do them a favor, but for most people the weight and investment of a
real estate transaction is simply too great to trust to someone who lacks
experience. - “My agent doesn’t listen.”
Perhaps the agent repeatedly shows a
potential buyer homes that they aren’t interested in, or doesn’t remember facts
about the home a seller is trying to sell. A real estate agent’s role means
they should ask a lot of questions. Whether you’re buying or selling, the agent
should go over the process with you, and make sure you’re on the same page, and
that your priorities are understood.
All real estate agents pledge to abide by minimum a code of ethics,
which is intended to protect the customer. Personal ethics may go beyond
that. If you work with The Sprich Group, you can be comfortable knowing
you will always get our personal best. When you’re thinking about your
